How to Check and Add Coolant to a Generator?
Before checking and adding coolant to a generator please read the warning below.
WARNING – NEVER remove coolant cap from radiator when the radiator is hot, and NEVER add coolant to a hot radiator.
Generally the generator set is supplied pre-filled with radiator coolant when purchased new.
Before starting and as part of a regular maintenance schedule, it is important to check the level of coolant in the radiator, and replenish as necessary.
How to check coolant in a generator?
To check the coolant, remove the cap from the top of the radiator ONLY when the generator is completely cold. Visually inspect that the coolant in the radiator is visible above the radiator elements.
How to add coolant in a generator?
If coolant is required add until the radiator is full, and ensure that cold coolant is NOT added to the radiator that is warm-allow machine to cool fully before adding coolant.
Standard coolant is a mixture of water and antifreeze (harmful) (BS 6580-1992) at a ratio of 3:1.
When full replace and fully tighten coolant cap on top of radiator.
